As a third generation farmer, Eric Johnson succeeded his grandfather, Fred Johnson, and father, Kenny Johnson. The farm, like most, consisted of livestock and commercial grain production in which most of the grain went to feeding their own livestock. In 1999, Kenny Johnson decided to sell the hogs and focus on grain farming. A couple years later, when Eric desired to be a part of the farm operation, they formed two new businesses.
One of the businesses, formed in the fall of 2001, was K & E Johnson Farm Partnership. Purchasing the farm's first semi and belt conveyor, they started a trucking and seed loading business to haul seed beans and commercial grain in Iowa. Then, in 2006, they started to load and haul seed beans around Iowa with the purchase of our first commercial-sized grain vac. In 2009, a new name was formed for the business as Johnson Seed & Grain Services, L.L.C. Then in 2012, Eric Johnson bought out Kenny Johnson. Today Johnson Seed & Grain Services employs 18 full-time and part-time people with the equipment needed to move a lot of grain fast.
The second business was formed the winter of 2003. Kenny and Eric Johnson along with Eric's father-in-law, Clarence Sherfield, started a belt conveyor manufacturing business called GrainWay L.L.C. In 2009, after enjoying the challenge of designing a new product from the ground up, marketing, pricing, and developing a dealer network, Eric decided to turn his 1/3 share of GrainWay to Kenny and Clarence.
Eric decided to focus on taking care of his family, farm, and Johnson Seed & Grain Services.
Through times of change, new opportunities arise. Having a diverse background with being part of starting two businesses, Eric Johnson looks forward to being dedicated to seeing Johnson Seed & Grain Services running well and investing profits into the farm operation. Eric knows the value of having a team that works together and desires greatly to have that approach in all that he does going forward.
