Farming Practices for Sustainable Farming

Farming Best Practices

Impact Farms is a professional farming operation located in Grundy County, Iowa, where we grow corn, soybeans, and seedbeans. As a third generation farmer, Eric Johnson and the rest of the Impact Farms team have a lot of experience with different farming practices. We work hard to conserve resources while maximizing productivity and profitability. The farm utilizes a variety of farming practices to keep learning what works best. Every year the farm tries new concepts which include different types of fertilizers, foliar feeding, machinery updates, and new seed traits to name a few.

At Impact Farms, we understand that farming best practices will vary from field to field and even year to year. We are constantly challenged to find the best combination of tillage, needed tiling, genetics and nutrients etc. for each farm. Technology has greatly aided in this process. We use this to our advantage as our farming operation expands to new areas.

Tillage

Proper tillage is a farming practice that Impact Farms tries to match to the particular needs of the soil and crop in each field. There is also a percentage of our acres that we practice no till agriculture on.

Tiling

Pattern tiling is another farming best practice that maximizes farm potential when done properly. In addition to selecting the right combination of nutrients and seed, we believe tiling is a farming practice that can be done to see return on investment.

Managing Nutrients

Nutrient management plays a significant part in sustainable farming. Soil is our biggest resource and needs to be properly maintained.

Farming Technology

Technology is a key part to our everyday farming operation. We use technology to track data and make decisions.
